I've never been formally diagnosed and at the age of 70 going on never will be. However I discovered my life's story when I checked out what Asperger's was after reading David Byrne's bio to find out what it was. A couple of years alter I mentioned to a friend whom I'd worked with for many years that I thought I might have it. To my surprise he told me he'd thought so a long time ago. Whatever, the clothes fit. The things you mentioned n your intro to this video was as good a fit for myuself as any I've read. I don't think about it much any more.

I think maybe, But interestingly my personality type (Myers Brigs, MBTT) has the most resemblance to Autism, and when a poll was done despite there being 16 types with INTJ being a rare type, 36% or so were INTJ, a smaller but large percent are INTP together making up like 56% of Autists who answered the poll. So either there is more Autism in these types, or more misdiagnosis, or maybe accentuation of Autistic traits due to personality type. But any way you cut it some personality types have personality traits that resemble Autism.

Hi Dave. As you teaching me and others, I thought I bring some things to your attention. You're from the families of Plummer, but still I hope you Plummer would at least listen. All the Plummers I met in my life (not many, but interestingly more than average through my life in the Anglo-Saxon areas, borders) had a tendency to parroting what they think they know is correct and even calling other opinions straight a bull's end product! But we all have to grow up and listen and keep our eyes open. Like Galileo! We can only wonder when we look up to the distance or look into the terrain. Be it the soil, or the body. You have a mindset of a programmer. You have a mindset of seeing the interfaces. Now see the terrains! As above so below. But do we really understand the meaning of this sentence? I had to learn about my body as well. Especially when we faced challenges! I think you might be able to find more detailed answers for your bodily and mental 'problems'! Not real problems, but underlying conditions making it really occur. But it doesn't have to carry on this way for happening again and again. My whole life's greatest suspicions, which I couldn't even grasp to turn into questions, seems like being answered. All I had to do is follow a trace back to the French Academy of Science, and their notes, discussions, excerpts. Back to the Eighteenth hundreds, Baby! No emails, only written ones. A scientist had a concern with an other scientists results? Notes. Other had an other opinion? Notes. A fellow German had other concerns? Notes, letters, discussions... war! Some thought, let me call "him" only just the French Republic owners, that some results would make a good benefit in the near future, on an ongoing way. So the notes started to reflect some shady things going on and forced over on another, even with the almost rebellion of - I would say - the real scientists across European, and some American and English sources, laboratories, schools. So, the trace is called the Bechamp vs Pasteur debate. A whole book written by Douglas Etel Hume if you interested in the wider seethrough. Here is another few, and if you ever start to read it, imagine three harsh slaps I give you once you read the first letter of them. But that moment of the first 3 you will know that I deserved it, and now you deserve it. John H. Tilden said a few things in his Toxemia Explained named book. I am sure it's clear once you got through. Now a pair of books is adviced next, because, well, it is what it is. You'll see when you grab Gerald L. Geison's journey and he named it Private science of Pasteurs and simultan Antoine Bechamp's which named The blood and It's third element. So much real science. The basics! The comparison. And never too late to pass it to your children about someone, who's book should been red like every 12 years old cildren. You gonna love this, George Washington Carey. And wonderful interfaces and terrains starts to arise in your brain and mind in his Zodiac and the Salts of Salvation titled one. Your tongue is english, so I am pretty sure you will read faster and even get ahead of me seeing ourselves. It is what it is. Everything else is just more rice on the plate. For now, godspeed! Decide yourself!

Dave, I really hope you see this. Could you do a video discussing your take on the positive effects AI can have for autistic people given the rise of LLMs? As a very recently diagnosed 37 year old autistic software architect, I've only recently really been able to process exactly how much positive impact just chat GPT alone has had on me. Literally just being able to speak to an entity with such vast knowledge, and the fact that it is literally programmed to be exclusively supportive and helpful.... 🤯🤯🤯

Thank you so much for this perspective. When I moved out of state for college I began to question ALOT about myself and who I truly am. Problems with campus lighting being to bright to sleep, noise from dorm residents, roommate issues, issues with setting boundaries with strangers, etc… In terms of my own personal childhood development: I find myself observing some of my childhood friends who were diagnosed with autism later or those who also question, and how I clicked with them in unique ways. I think for me it is hyper-focus, misophonia, tactile issues, eating problems, sleep issues with time change/daylight, issues with spontaneity when my own affairs aren’t in order, fixations on broad topics (drawing, playing guitar, listening/finding new music, learning about cars for aesthetics and builds, and military planes have been my main ones from 2022-2024. Hyper focus on those things is very rewarding and I love to make diagrams of what I learn and teach others to reaffirm what I’ve learned. I have been told to no end I should be a teacher since high school. I would study more than most people, and one final thing is I would always insist I do the entirety of group projects so it could be done faster and so I wouldn’t have to worry about poor quality work 😂. I always had that problem from middle-high until college I try my best to listen and allow my piece to be of equal value to everyone else’s. It is hard to not be a control freak sometimes

5:46 Work on figuring out the underlying neurology of autism is still in its infancy, but, based on personal experience and what I've heard others say, I'm inclined to believe that some sort of throughput-over-latency tradeoff in the brain is involved. It feels like there's a deep and wide CPU pipeline involved and a bunch of pending work gets thrown out whenever I take an interrupt.

See, as far as I'm concerned there's a difference between 2*(1+2) and 2(1+2). It's the same as the difference between a*b and ab. The problem is that those that think the answer to 6/2(2+1) is not one are saying that 1/2a=a/2. And it isn't. So you all go ahead and have your pointless arguments over badly written expressions when really you need to take a step backwards and find out why the expression was badly written, and when you find that out, put it right.

I'm 66, and an electronics engineer for 45-years, a helicopter pilot, a photographer, and an author. While I haven't been officially diagnosed to be on the autism spectrum, I did learn about the typical symptoms a few years ago, and these seemed to describe me perfectly. By knowing this now, SO much of my life makes a lot more sense! While it was VERY difficult for me in junior high and early high school due to my substantial social awkwardness, since then my ability to hyper-focus on topics has become something of a super-power, propelling me to the top in my field. With this, came greater social acceptance among friends and acquaintances, although I still struggle greatly in social situations. Interestingly, I very recently learned that one of my very best friends has also, independently, come to the conclusion that she, too, is on the spectrum. I find this fascinating because it seems to have contributed, at least on a subconscious level, to our getting together, even though we've now been friends nearly 15-years, and we both only just recently discovered the likelihood of each of us being on the spectrum.

How sharp and enthusiastic he seems. Love hearing the stories of these things i loved from my childhood. Got a c64 in 89 and the only thing that mattered was what games it could play. In the early mid 90s my uncle once said " you should learn programming. That will be the future" i never cared for that and how a computer worked. I just wanted to play doom, duke nukem, heroes 2 and drive and fix my moped and play guitar. Who here in the most northern part of norway needed programming skills 😂. Now at 42, i feel guilty for not being more interested in computers back then. Anyways i feel grateful to get to hear from the people who are truly wizards of software and hardware have these chats. Thinking of how playful and innocent the business once seemed, and what a monster it has transformed into today for both good and bad.

The problem is their definitions just includes pretty much all human traits and tendencies at this point. With the way they've set it up, you can't not fit into some group.

I'd use the brake signal before it's mixed in by pulling a signal from the brake switch at the top of the pedal under the dash. In fact, I'd pick all the signals up there & run them in cable to the back of the bed where I'd embed the micro in a sealed box with drain holes. That way it leaves the whole system available even when a trailer is connected.

Thank you dave, I also have autism and know what it's like to hear sarcastic jokes. I often take them literally even though I know they are meant to be funny. I also notice that I am often distracted by many stimuli around me. I must find my peace for this. I took medication for this to be able to study focused and fortunately I no longer need it. I have a job in IT. I have the exact same things you described in the video. I always found it difficult to make friends. I often had few really good friends. Often also friends who also have autism. Somehow we just understand each other well. I can sense whether someone has autism or not. When I ask them it is often the case.
